Abstract
1281698 Metallic photographic plates bearing conductive metal images ITEK CORP 14 July 1969 [15 July 1968] 35288/69 Headings G2C and G2M A developed photographic plate is obtained by exposing and physically developing a photo-sensitive layer of silver halide in a binder which is deposited on a receptive metallic support (i.e. a metallic support which has been physically or chemically roughened in order that a metallic image deposited thereon by physical development will be adherently bonded to the support or a physically smooth support which by chemical means will form an adhesive bond with the metal image deposited thereon by physical development), wherein the developed image is a coherent, conductive metallic image adherently and conductively bound to the metallic support. The binder layer preferably is 10 microns or less thick and is preferably permeable to the solvent used in physical development. An insulating layer which is permeable to the solvent used in physical development may be present between the support and the binderlayer. The insulating layer may be an oxide of the support metal or a gelatine layer (Example 1). The support may be aluminium, aluminium-manganese alloy or steel. The metallic image may be copper, silver or silver and copper. After image formation the silver halide layer may be removed by washing. In Example 1 the silver image is treated with a copperizing solution and dilute phosphoric acid to produce a printing plate. In Example 3 the silver image of Example 1 is coated with a lacquer which adheres to oleophilic surfaces in preference to hydrophilic surfaces to form a printing plate and additionally with a clear lacquer for use as a label. In Example 5 the silver image is treated with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and 85% H 3 PO 4 in water so that it will accept greasy printing ink, and the unexpected areas will accept water. Reference is made to copending Specifications 1281697 and 1281699.
