1275580 Covering the sides of cakes with crumblings VSESOJUZNY ZAOCHNY INSTITUT PISCHEVOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI MVI SSORSFSR 1 Nov 1969 53654/ 69 Heading A2A The side faces of cakes, e.g. square multilayer cakes, are covered with crumblings by apparatus comprising two hoppers (15, Fig. 1, not shown) having lower vibrating portions which deliver via shoots 17 to two boxes 21 each having an inlet 22 and an outlet 23, the latter being arranged in a wall which, in the operative positions of the boxes shown in full lines, is parallel with and closely adjacent a corresponding side face of a cake to be covered which has been raised into the position shown by a vertically reciprocating table 18, the table being operated in timed relationship with the drive to a conveyor 2 which moves intermittently to present the cakes in turn to a position between the boxes. Also driven in timed relationship with the conveyer is a reciprocating slide 27 connected by links 28 to the boxes 21 for tipping the latter from inoperative positions, shown in chain lines, to their operative positions, this tipping of the boxes being effected as the platform 18 is being raised, through cams 14, 14' acting on respective linkages 19, 26 which are connected to the platform 18 and slide 27 respectively. The conveyer consists of a pair of endless chains carrying supporting members for plates (3, Fig. 1, not shown) on which the cakes rest, the plates being slotted to allow projections 20 on the platform 18 to pass through as the platform is raised to lift each cake.
