Abstract

1275290 Stretching and cutting films longitudinally KALLE AG 11 July 1969 [12 July 1968 3 Aug 1968] 35075/69 Heading B5B Thermoplastic film is stretched longitudinally in two stages, the first stage using a narrow stretching gap system in which the stretching gap length is only a fraction of the film width and not more than a few centimetres, and the second stage using a wide stretching gap system in which the stretching gap length is of the order of the film width and up to several metres; longitudinal cutting of the film may take place after at least one of the stretching stages, preferably between the two stages, and may result in film strips of high or low fibrillation tendency according to the proportion of the total stretching carried out in each stage. Stretching apparatus includes roller systems defining a narrow stretching gap 12 and a wide stretching gap 17, a cutting device 14, and a heating device 15. Each stretching stage may be subdivided (Fig. 4, not shown). Stretching ratios may be form 2 : 1 to 6 : 1 in the narrow gap system and from 1À2 : 1 to 5 : 1 in the wide gap system. Preferred materials are polypropylene and high density polyethylene.
