Abstract
1275073 Gas/liquid contact apparatus KOBE STEEL Ltd 20 May 1969 [20 May 1968] 25713/69 Heading B1R [Also in Division F4] Cold compressed gas mixture e.g. purge gas of an ammonia synthesis process separation apparatus comprises a plurality of vertical flat sided chambers A, B, Fig. 1 formed by spaced vertical plates J, top bottom and end plates K, a bottom header C opening at ports 11, Fig. 6 into chambers A which alternate with chambers B and to which the gas mixture is admitted at 36, a bottom outlet header F in which methane and nitrogen condensed in chambers A is collected and withdrawn at 38, an upper outlet header E in which hydrogen separated in chambers A is collected and withdrawn at 37 an upper inlet header D opening. at ports 13, 15, Fig. 5 into chambers B and to which cold liquid refrigerant is admitted at 39, and a bottom outlet header G in which vaporized refrigerant is collected and withdrawn at 40; each chamber A being occupied by perforated corrugated metal fins 21 to 28 arranged in stages A1, A2, A3 and brazed to plates J and serving to direct the gas mixture upwardly and allowing fractionation of the mixture, and chambers B being occupied by similar fins 29 to 33 brazed to plates J and serving to provide sinous downward flow of refrigerant.
