Abstract
1,274,611. Valves. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 23 Feb., 1970 [21 Feb., 1969], No. 8483/70. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] A spill valve 7 communicating with the highpressure line 2 between the fuel pump 1 and the injection valve 3 of an I.C. engine is held in the closed position by hydraulic pressure in a line 8 which is relieved by a governor 6 in response to over-speeding. The governor 6 is mounted on the pump cam-shaft 5 and the line 8 may contain lubricating oil at a pressure of 5 atm. gauge. The lubricating oil is admitted through a port 24 to a bellows chamber 32 to hold the closure member 28 of the spill valve on its seat against the pressure in the fuel line 2. The valve 7 may be dimensioned so that it is opened by excess pressure in the line 2 as well as by reduction of pressure in the line 8.
