Abstract

1,274,648. Laminates. W. R. GRACE & CO. 31 July, 1969 [31 July, 1968 (3)], Nos. 36582/68, 36583/68 and 36584/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division C1 ] A method of effecting adhesion between two substrates at least one of which is glass and the other which may be glass, metal, plastics or wood, comprises forming an assembly to be bonded by interposing between the substrates and in contact with both, a thermally activatable adhesive composition containing particles of a material which is ferromagnetic or electrically conductive or both and subjecting the assembly to the action of a high frequency alternating magnetic field until the adhesive has become activated. The particle size may be between 50 and 220 microns. The apparatus used for carrying out the process consists of a generator 1, a timing device 3 adapted to operate the generator for a pre-determined period and a work coil 4 to apply the magnetic field. The process may be used to construct double glazing units either with lead spacers or alternatively with plastics spacers. Numerous examples of adhesives are given such as "Surlyn A" (Registered Trade Mark) and "Vessator" (Registered Trade Mark). Examples of inductive materials are given including aluminium alloy, graphite and sponge iron powder.
