Abstract
1,272,617. Moulding briquettes. H. W. KOPPERN, and H. K. SCHAFER, [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK KOPPERN & CO. K.G.]. 2May, 1969 No. 22458/69. Heading B5A. Fine particulate materials, e.g. sea water magnesia, flue dusts, caustic magnesia, or raw cement dust, less than 0.1 mm. and wherein not more than 25% of the particles are larger than 0.04 mm., are briquetted in cavities 32 provided in circumscribing bands of co-operating rollers 2, 4, to a sealed enclosure in the nip where of they are delivered by rotating conical screw means 10, providing a compression ratio of 1 : 1.5 to 1 : 2 (by means of an inlet to outlet diameter ratio of between 1 : 1.15 and 1 : 1.25) whereby the bulk density of the material is increased to 50% of the specific density, thereof. The screw means 10 may comprise a single conical screw, or three such intermeshing screws which may either have the same direction of pitch and rotation or the intermediate screw whereof may be of opposite direction of pitch and rotation. The screw or screws locate in a barrel 6 which is conically configured to the screw periphery, and the lower end of the barrel and of the screw or screws has a conicity of a diameter ratio between 1 : 1.15 and 1 : 1.25 to provide the required compression ratio. The sealed enclosure to which the material is delivered in the nip is defined between end plates (16 and 18), Fig. 2 (not printed), having wear resistant linings (20 and 22) which are spring loaded into contact with the ends of the rollers 2, 4 and with a plate 14 which surrounds the barrel 6 and between which and the rollers are sealing elements 24 and 26, having wear resistant linings 30 and 28, which are spring loaded into contact with the rollers 2, 4 along the nip and are of a width at least that of the circumferential length of the cavities 32.
