One or more fuses 22 are mounted in a drawer 18 slidable within metallic housing 12 containing switches 35, 36, the manually operable handles 53, 54 for the switches being interlocked with a fuse drawer locking means, to prevent the withdrawal of the drawer from a switchclosed position. In the closed position of the drawer 18 the contact arms 29, 30 connected to one end of each of the three vertically stacked fuses, Fig. 4 (not shown), engage contact plates 31, 32 on which switch blades 33, 34 are mounted. The contact plates are vertically spaced along rotatable stacks of insulators (37), (38), to the upper end of which are connected operating arms 41, 42. Spring operators 47, 48 or overcentre spring operators 49, 50, see Fig. 6, provide a snap-action movement of the insulator stacks. Ground switch blades 69, 70 engage contacts 83, 84 when operated by handles 79, 80. Arc-chutes 63, 64 are provided on the stationary contact 55, 56, support plates. Handle locking links 89, 90 have longitudinally extending notches 91, 92 which if not in registry i.e. when both switches are open do not allow overlying vertically-extending drawer locking link 85 to release the drawer. Lost motion between the links 89, 90 and the handles 53, 54, enables the initial charging of the operating springs. Latch 101 is spring biased being held away from notches 91, 92 by the tip of link 85. With the drawer unlocked, the latch engages the notches so as to prevent the closing of the switches. With the switches closed the pins 113, 114 prevent, via links 109, 110, the closing of grounding switch blades 69, 70. Further, links 121, 122 of the grounding switch prevent, in the grounded position, the closing of switches 35, 36.
