Abstract
1,267,668. Casting moulds processes and machines; mould weights. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., and P. H. C. WADDING- TON. 17 Dec., 1969 [20 Dec., 1968], No. 60597/68. Heading B3F. A casting die 1 (Fig. 4) has an open top which is closed, in use, by a lid 2 having a grid of apertures 4. Before casting, apertures are selected as pouring runners and risers and plaster sleeves 6 (Fig. 2) are located in each and held down by annular weights 7. Those apertures not used for runners or risers are sealed by plugs 5. The die 1 is preheated then placed on a casting table 25 between clamps 26. The casting table 25 is tilted by a ram 30 and molten metal is poured into the die. While pouring the table 25 is lowered to ensure steady filling of the mould. After the metal has cooled the lid 2 is lifted, destroying the sleeves 6 and sprung ejector pins 18 are operated by a plate 23 to remove the casting from the die. The ejector pins 18 have screw-threaded ends (20) mounting end nuts 21 which allow the ejector pin lengths to be varied.
