[Also in Division G5] A sign comprises a backing 10, and indicia 13 defined by specular reflecting and diffusely reflecting surfaces covered with reflex reflecting beads 18 bonded thereto. In use the relative prominence of the surfaces will appear to change with the position of the observer. As described, backing 10 is of polyester plastics metallized at 11 with aluminium (to form the specular reflecting surface) and backed with a pressure-sensitive adhesive 12. Zones 14, 15, 16 are respectively transparent, light-coloured opaque (to form the diffusely reflecting surface) and matt inks applied by screen printing. Layer 17 is a transparent varnish of specified composition, to which "Ballotini" beads 18 are applied before it dries; the beads may be protected by an external lean lacquer layer (not shown).
