1,265,561. Extracting sugar. RAFFINERIE TIRLEMONTOISE. 20 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968; 14 Feb., 1969], No. 9159/69. Heading B1Q. In an apparatus for counterflow of water and sugar cane which has a rotating horizontal drum divided into axially spaced partitions successively connected by an axial wall with a notch extending from the periphery= the direction of the drum axis and with the opposed edges of neighbouring notches connected by slanting walls to give a double screw conveyer with perforated carrying elements the usual slanting chutes are dispensed with and each fraction of each liquid flow passes alternately from one series of cells the other series reeling alternately and successively the fractions of the two solid flows.
