Abstract
1,265,410. Photographic film units. POLAROID CORP. Aug. 19, 1970 [Aug. 19, 1969], No.39957/70. Heading G2A. In a photographic film unit (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), having rupturable pods (16) of processing liquid at a leading edge (12) thereof and a compartment 56 for excess processing liquid at a trailing edge 14 thereof, the compartment 56 communicates with a portion which expands in size which size varies in accordance with the quantity of excess processing liquid. The compartment 56 and expandible portion are formed by a trailing section of a transparent sheet 30 extending beyond the trailing section of a photo-sensitive sheet 32 and by a part 54 of a binder which is wrapped around and sealed to the trailing sections of sheets 30, 32. A comb-like element 44 is provided, between the teeth of which excess liquid is first collected. After the compartment 56 is full, further excess liquid flows into portion 60. As the trailing end of the unit passes between rollers 50, 52, the liquid from portion 60 is driven between the teeth of the element 44 into volume 58, Fig. 4. In second and third embodiments, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), a portion of the sheet (54) is folded back on itself, which portion expands when the compartment (56) is full. In a fourth embodiment, the element 44 is replaced by a rockable comb-like element (78).
