Abstract
126,456. Hancock, T. May 8, 1918. Screw propellers.-A sheet - metal propeller intended particularly for aircraft is made of two stampings 2<1>, which are welded together at their edges, each stamping forming a half of the blades and a half of the boss 1 of the propeller. The stampings may be secured in position during welding by means of lugs formed on their edges, the lugs being afterwards removed. The propeller is strengthened by dished frame members 4<1>, which are secured to the stampings at their edges by brazing or riveting and at their edges by welding. Plates 5 fixed to the faces of the boss are bored to receive the ends of tubular distancepieces in the boss. A flanged sleeve fitted inside the boss may be used in place of the plates and distances-pieces.
