Abstract
1,262,402. Mechanical switches. SWF.- SPEZIALFABRIK FUR AUTOZUBEHOR GUSTAV RAU G.m.b.H. 14 July, 1970 [17 July, 1969], No. 34012/70. Heading H1N. A combination switch and valve for operating the windscreen wipers and washer of a vehicle has a main contact operating, hollow spindle 11 in which slides a rod 33 operating the valve 20 and a set of auxiliary contacts 35, 36. The spindle 11 carries a rotor 14 which has contacts co-operating with a printed circuit panel 15; the latter also carries the components of a circuit providing intermittent wiping in one position of the switch. The rod 33 has a shoulder 44 engageable with a contact blade 35. An extension of the rod 33 is engaged in a resilient diaphragm 18 which seals the valve compartment and when deformed engages the valve 20; the diaphragm also supplies a biasing force urging the rod 33 out of the housing. When the rod is pushed in to open valve 20 for windscreen washing contacts 35, 36 are closed so as to energize the wiper motor. In other embodiments a rigid member is attached to the end of rod 33. This has an arm 30 (Fig. 4) extending into space 31. The arm 30 has a groove 45 in which rests a fixed contact 37. As the rod 33 is moved the end of arm 30 cams one or other of a pair of spring blades 38, 39 out of engagement with contact 37. The outer end of spindle 11 is threaded to receive a knob and rod 33 carries a push-button 34. Either the push-button or the arm 30 may be formed integrally with the rod 33.
