Abstract

[Also in Division B6] A document aligning device for positioning a cheque 22 in a printing position in contact with a stop bar 21 and a side stop 128 comprises a plate 16 for supporting the cheque 22 and a roller 23 which initially feeds the cheque to the stop bar 21, the shaft 24 of the roller 23 then pivoting through 90 degrees to the dotted-line position in which the roller feeds the cheque to the stop 128. Engagement of the cheque with the stop 128 acts through a half-revolution clutch to stop rotation of the roller 23. The plate 16 normally lies in an inclined position (Fig. 1, not shown) to receive a cheque, and a cycle of operation is initiated after insertion of a cheque by depression of a button (86, Fig. 1) which acts through a half-revolution clutch 61 to pivot the plate 16 to vertical position and initiate rotation of the roller 23. When the cheque is aligned against the stop bar 21, further resistance to downward motion causes the roller to pivot its own shaft automatically until a lug 27 strikes a stop 31.
