Abstract

1,255,494. Cutting tools. F. M. LUMB. 11 Feb., 1969 [16 March, 1968], No. 12859/68. Headings B3C and B3T. A cutting tool for use in turning or boring comprises a shank 10 on which is mounted a head 11 which carries a plurality of cutters 12 and which is indexable to bring any one of the cutters into the operative position, the head being provided with tongues 11A which engage in slots 15 in the shank which locates the head prior to clamping by means of a screw 14. A tapered member 16 with the necessary grooves and slots may be inserted between the cutter head and the shank to produce a slight inclination of the cutters when used for thread cutting. In a further embodiment of the cutting tool when used for boring the shank is eccentrically positioned relative to a boss 20 which is insertable in tool holder bore on a machine tool the shank being positioned and located by a pin 22 which is engageable in a selected bore 24 in the shank. The eccentricity of the shank and boss permits the boring of different diameters by rotating and clamping the shank in the bore in the machine tool.
