Abstract

1,255,321. Glow-discharge nitriding. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. March 6, 1969 [March 11, 1968], No. 11687/68. Heading C7U. [Also in Division G3] In a glow-discharge process for treating (e.g. by ion-nitriding) a workpiece (e.g. of steel), the discharge is maintained by a pulsed current, a reducing gas (e.g. hydrogen) is introduced into the chamber in which the workpiece is the cathode and the discharge is maintained until the workpiece is cleaned and reaches the working temperature when the mark-space ratio of the pulse is decreased. The working gas may be introduced before, or when, the working temperature is reached.
