Abstract
1,255,342. Cables. NUCLEAR-CHICAGO CORP. 3 April, 1969 [5 April, 1968], No. 17460/69. Heading H1A. [Also in Division H2] A HVDC power supply (see Division H2) is connected to a linear accelerator via a cable having a plurality of concentric conductors respectively spaced from each other with concentric insulating layers between them, in such a way that the voltages thereon are graded in magnitude from a high voltage on the innermost conductor to lowest voltage on the outermost conductor. A 50 foot length of suitable cable may be formed from a copper tube 270 containing a centre conductor 280, the tube 270 then being covered with a thin-wall plastic tube 415 which is then bonded by heat shrinkage. A layer 260 of aluminium foil or braided copper is next disposed over layer 415 followed by another length of heat-shrinkable plastic tubing and so on. The overall diameter was 1À2 inches and the cable operated with 300 kVDC on tube 270 with approximately 60 kV voltage drops between the respective other conductors.
