Abstract

1,254,236. Arc-rupturing in switches. SQUARE D CO. 16 Dec., 1969 [17 Jan., 1969], No. 61164/69. Heading H1N. Magnetic arc blow-out for a direct current electromagnetic relay comprises two - discshaped permanent magnets 52 placed either side of stationary-contact-carrying insulating block 10, a stationary contact, 46, being adjacent to each magnet. The magnets, the opposite side faces of each of which are of opposite polarity, have a split rim 55, of e.g. copper, aluminium, having good - arc-resistant properties, resiliently heldabout the magnets. The respective rims are prevented from rotating about the magnet by the rim-gap 56 engaging projection 27. The magnets are held in place by resilient contact arms 40 which have terminals 45. The magnets, preferably, are - of a rubberbondedbarium ferrite composition and havea recess 54 engaged by a projection 50 on the contact arm.
