Abstract

1,251,571. Lifting jacks. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 27 Aug., 1969, No. 42647/69. Heading B8J. A structure 1, such as a floating barge, is provided with a plurality of vertical bores 2 each accommodating an elongated member 4, such as a spud, with a number of rows of protrusions 5 arranged to pass through guide channels 3 preventing rotation of the member 4 relative to the structure 1. Upper and lower rigid members 7, 8 surround the member 4 and are interconnected by hydraulic cylinders 10. Connecting rods 9 secure the upper rigid member 7 to the structure 1. Both members 7, 8 have clawed rotary members 11 each with a pair of claws 15 arranged to be rotated by hydraulic cylinders 12 from a locking position, Fig. 5, between two protrusions 5 and a position allowing relative movement between the member 7 or 8 and the member 4, Fig. 6. The engaging faces of the claws 15 and the protrusions 5 are plane, the claws 15 having sufficient rotary freedom to ensure full-face engagement with the protrusions 5 when in the locking position. By appropriate locking and unlocking of the various rotary locking members 11 by the cylinders 12 and extension and retraction of the cylinders 10 the structure 1 may be lifted or lowered with respect to the member 4 or vice versa.
