Abstract
1, 249,467. Measuring spacing, electrically. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 5, 1969 [March 5, 1968], No.10671/68. Heading G1N. The spacing between the tool and the workpiece in an electro-chemical machining operation is measured by supplying an alternating voltage across the tool and workpiece to develop an alternating signal across a resistor 6 coupled, via capacitors 7 and 8, to the tool and workpiece and amplifying the signal in an amplifier 9 having a peaked response at the signal frequency. A further (linear) amplifier 15 is provided with swing- limiting Zener diodes 17, 18. Relay 4, 5 connects resistor 6 to amplifier 9 only when the alternating supply is connected.
