Abstract

1,249,153. Fire escape ladder. S. F. FLANAGAN. 12 June, 1969 [15 March, 1968], No. 12600/68. Heading E1S. A flexible metal fire escape ladder is stored in a container 10 beneath a window sill 21 and is attached at one end (the lower end in use) to a detachable lid (16), Fig. 2 (not shown) and at the other end either to the container or via a hook bolt to an adjacent wall. The ladder is provided with spacers 28 to position it correctly in use, these being fitted either to the side chains 22 or the rungs. Each rung comprises an oval section metal member with a rod extending through it, the rod passing through the side chains and being located by screws at each end. The container 10 has a hinged front 14 which is normally maintained vertical by a flange around the edge of the lid, but which drops down as shown when the lid is removed.
