Abstract

124,866. Bradley, J. W. March 9, 1918. Drills, cutters, and cutter bars; reamers; taps. - In boring-heads &c. in which the cutters are expanded by a cone as described in Specification 119,561, the cone is operated by a spindle with two screw-threaded portions acting differentially. The cutters f are secured to holders r dovetailed to the cone e<1>, which is engaged by the threaded part c<3> of the spindle c. The thread c<2> diffexs in pitch from the thread c' and engages the body a, so that when the spindle c is rotated by the disk i engaging its square end c<1>, the cutters are adjusted. The disk is secured by nuts m on pins l passing through slots k, or by T-headed bolts engaging an undercut annular groove k<1> shown in broken lines. The cone e' is prevented from turning by a screw h, and a spring u assists in contracting the cutters. Specification 124,865 is referred to.
