Abstract

1,245,265. Hose end fittings; hoses. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. 15 April, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 25731/68. Headings F2G and F2P. An end fitting assembly for a metal braided conduit 4 comprises a tubular body 2 including an insert portion 3 adapted to be inserted in the bore of the conduit, an annular shoulder 5 on the body and adjacent the inner end of the portion 3 to define the limit of entry of that portion into the conduit, a sleeve mounted on the body 2 near to the shoulder the sleeve including an outer sleeve portion 9 extending over the portion 3 and a radially directed flange 10 fixed to the body, and a ferrule 12 adapted to overlie the coaxial outer face of the metal braid 11 a portion of which is constrained to flow into the annular space between the portion 9 and the ferrule. The arrangement is such that the sleeve portion 9 can be swaged down on to the braid to secure the braid between the ferrule and sleeve portion to effect an electrical connection between the end fitting and the braid. As shown, the body 2 has an externally threaded portion 3 so that the body may be screwed into the convoluted conduit 4 which is flared outwardly to terminate at the shoulder 5. The conduit may, as shown, comprise (a) a convoluted sheath of Neoprene, inner and outer wire helixes 17, 18 and a galvanized metal braid 11, and optionally, an outer sheath of neoprene, (b) convoluted conduit 4 of polyvinyl chloride reinforced by a rigid spiral of P.V.C. and an outer wire braid 11, and optionally, an outer sheath of P.V.C. or (b) a convoluted conduit 4 of polytetrafluoroethylene and an outer metal braid 11.
