Abstract

1,243,758. Face shovel excavators. HARNISCHFEGER CORP. 15 April, 1970 [23 April, 1969], No. 18062/70. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F2] In a face shovel excavator gearing driving the shipper shaft of the excavator is itself driven from a motor 30 mounted on the boom 3 of the excavator through a multiple, preferably unitised V belt drive. The motor 30 is secured on a rockable platform 40 mounted at 48 on the boom 3 and lockable thereto when the correct tension of the belt has been obtained by appropriate positioning of the platform relative to the boom. This complete drive is encased so that filtered air can be ducted around the motor and the belt for the cooling thereof. The tension of the belt can be determined by a spring-loaded, calibrated, telescopic, roller-carrying probe 60 that is pivotally mounted on the boom so that it can be swung up against the underside of the V belt drive.
