Abstract

1,242,057. Derivatives of 4-hydroxytetrafluoropyridine. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 July, 1968, No. 6675/71. Divided out of 1,242,056. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein X represents an alkaline earth metal or transition metal cation, the ammonium or a substituted ammonium ion or an esterifying group. The salts may be prepared by reacting 4-hydroxytetrafluoropyridine with the appropriate metallic carbonate; the esters, including sulphonates, may be prepared by reacting 4- hydroxytetrafluoropyridine or a salt thereof with an acyl halide or sulphonyl halide. Specified compounds include the acetate and benzoate and the methanesulphonate, benzenesulphonate and p-chloro- (or methoxy)-benzenesulphonate and o-nitrobenzene sulphonate. The compounds of the invention are stated to inhibit plant growth.
