1,240,755. Cutting moving sheet. K. W. BENTFORS. 11 April, 1969, No. 18669/69. Heading B4B. A machine for cutting moving sheet or web material transversely comprises a first carriage 12, movable over a range of the web path in synchronism with the web and having runways 13, 14 mounting a second carriage 26 movable transversely over a range of the first, the carriage 26 having runner wheels 23, 24 and a rotary cutter 29 driven by an electric motor 27, a switch being operated by the second carriage 26 on reaching either end of its movement to stop the motor 27. V-belts 6 or chains (not shown), are driven at the same speed as the web feed, and the carriage 12 is movable along runways (2), 3 by engagement of the belts 6 against carriage members 16 by electromagnetic clamps 19 under photo-cell control. The web is fed over a plate 20, the transversing cutter 29 co-operating with a rule 21; a weight 22, or spring means, &c. (not shown) returns the carriage 12 to its initial position after the stroke, the transversely movable carriage 26 operating from alternate ends of its path during successive strokes.
