Abstract
1,240,588. Radio communication system. JAPANESE NATIONAL RAILWAYS, MITSUBISHI DENKI K.K., and SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 July, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 36078/69. Heading H4L. A system is described for communication between a central fixed station 1, Fig. 3, and a plurality of trains moving along a railway track. The information to be communicated may be divided into two categories:- (1) Information which is to be received by all the trains, e.g. common train control, telephone, television, radio; (2) Information which is to be received by those trains on a selected track section only, e.g. anti-collision data. A leaky transmission line 2, e.g. Fig. 2, is run along the track from the central station and is interrupted at the beginning of each track section by a frequency selection and conversion means 30 1 , 30 2 .... Information in category 1 is modulated on to a high-frequency carrier F 3 , which is passed unchanged by all the means 30 and is radiated by the leaky transmission line along all its length to all the trains. Information in category 2 for trains on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd track sections for example are modulated on low frequency carriers f 1 , f 2 , f 3 respectively. Means 30 selects carrier f 1 and converts it to a high-frequency carrier F 1 which radiates from the transmission line to the required train. The means 30 2 does not let the carrier F 1 pass to the next section. Likewise, means 30 2 converts carrier f 2 to carrier F 1 for radiation to the required train. The trains may communicate with the central station 1, Fig. 5, by coupling into the transmission line on a common high frequency F 2 . Means 30 1 , 30 2 , 30 3 convert this down to f<SP>1</SP> 1 , f<SP>1</SP> 2 , f<SP>1</SP> 3 respectively for passage to the central station and stop the passage of carrier F 2 from its initial section to the next. Ground stations 31, Fig. 6, may be connected to the means 30 1 &c. and may communicate with the central station 1 using common highfrequency carriers F<SP>1</SP> 3 , F<SP>1</SP> 4 (category 1, outward and inward) and F<SP>1</SP> 1 , F<SP>1</SP> 2 (category 2, outward and inward) and individual section low frequencies f<SP>11</SP> 1 , f<SP>11</SP> 2 ... f<SP>11</SP> n (outward) and f<SP>111</SP> 1 , f<SP>111</SP> 2 ... f<SP>111</SP> n (inward), in the same manner as described.
