Abstract

1,137,678. Reclining chairs. P. S. FLETCHER. 23 Feb., 1966, No. 7957/66. Heading A4J. In a reclining chair movable to a fully reclined position, via a semi-inclined position, the included angle between the seat and back-rest can be selectively adjusted, by the occupant, at any position in the range of movement of the chair. The seat 34 and back-rest 36 are supported on links 112 and 118 respectively, which are adjustably mounted on a carrier member 48. A linkage assembly moves the member 48 through a range of upright and reclined positions, optionally controlled by the friction of fixed pivot 78 in slot 68, in sequencing plate 66. As shown, the backrest 34 has been tilted, in the semi-reclined position, by rearward pressure exerted above its pivotal and sliding connection 122 to carrier member 48. Pin 136 moves to the lower end of slot 138, in stop link 132, as the rear end of the seat 34 is simultaneously raised.
