Abstract
1,137,426. Extrusion dies; spark erosion. MANNESMANN A.G. 2 Aug., 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 34598/66. Headings B3P and B3V. In an extrusion die for heavy metals such as steel, the surfaces which contact the extrusion metal have uniformly distributed fine pores or voids with a porosity of 10-50 per cent. The die 1 may be formed wholly by sintering powder metals including nitrides, oxides or carbides; the compositions are given of cobalt, nickel and iron base alloys. Nitrogen may be introduced in the sintering oven. A steel ring 2 is shrunk on the die. In other embodiments Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the die surfaces (4), (5) have a porous layer formed by spark erosion using a brush electrode with copper or brass bristles.
