Abstract

1,136,748. Esters. UNILEVER-EMERY N.V. 2 May, 1966 [30 April, 1965], No. 19162/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] Pentaerythritol tetravalerate is prepared by heating a mixture of pentaerythritol and valeric acid, molar ratio 1: 5, to 210‹ C. and removing the water of reaction as it formed by means of an azeotrope with xylene. Neopentyl glycol dipelargonate is similarly prepared from neopentyl glycol and pelargonic acid in molar ratio of 1: 2À2. Blends of the esters are used as lubricant base fluids (see Division C5).
