Abstract

1,133,907. Adjustable buttstock for firearms. COLT'S Inc. 26 April, 1967 [10 May, 1966], No. 19257/67. Heading F3C. An adjustable buttstock assembly 10 for a firearm comprises a fixed member 14 extending rearwardly of the firearm, a buttstock 12 receiving the fixed member 14 for relative sliding movement and a guide, for example, a rib 18 and co-operating keyway 32 between the buttstock and fixed member preventing relative rotation therebetween. The stock 12 is provided with a latch 44 which is selectively engageable with the fixed member 14 for locking the fixed member 14 and stock 12 against relative sliding movement. An operating arrangement is also provided which either partially retracts the latch 44 to allow relative sliding movement of the stock 12 and member 14 but precluding the disassembly thereof or fully retracts the latch 44 for disassembly or assembly of the buttstock assembly. In the construction shown the operating arrangement comprises a lever 56 of U- shaped cross-section which is adjustably attached by a nut 64 to the shank 52 of the latch 44 and which pivots about a rear end edge 68 when a handle portion 60 thereof is urged towards the stock 12 to partially retract the latch 44 (Fig. 2, not shown) and about a forward end edge (70, Fig. 3, not shown) when the handle portion 60 is urged away from the stock 12 to fully retract the latch 44. The latch in its relative movement locking position co-operates with one of a plurality of recesses 22, 24, the recesses being connected by a groove 20 in which the head 54 of the latch slides when the latch is in its partially retracted position.
