Abstract
1,130,108. Non-linear resistors. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 16 May, 1967 [16 May, 1966], No. 22771/67. Heading H1K. A non-linear resistor comprises a sintered body including ZnO, with silver-containing electrodes applied non-ohmically thereto. The body may-contain, as minor constituents, oxides of Fe, A1, Bi, Mg, Ca, Ni, Co, Nb, Ta, Zr, W, Cd and Cr, and the electrodes -may contain minority amounts of oxides of Pb, Si, B, Bi, Cd and Cu. Preferred compositions are specified. The starting materials for the body -may be preliminarily calcined at 700-1000‹ C., then crushed and mixed with water or polyvinyl alcohol as a binder. The mixture is dried and pressed in a wet mill, and is then sintered at 1250-1450‹ C. in air. Alternatively a non- oxidizing atmosphere may be used. After cooling and lapping, silver paint electrodes are applied, e.g. by spraying, screen printing, brushing, vacuum evaporation or chemical deposition, and are fired at 100-850‹ C. in an oxidizing atmosphere. The silver paint may have been prepared by mixing powder with an organic resin in an organic solvent. 'Examples are given. Silver carbonate or oxide, which convert to metallic silver on firing, may be used in the paint. Leads are fixed to the electrodes by soldering or by using silver paint adhesive. The resistor is finally embedded in resin.
