Abstract
1,129,721. Capping bottles. BETTS & CO. Ltd. 4 Feb., 1966 [4 Feb., 1965], No. 4829/65. Heading B8S. Capsules in shoot 9 are deposited in the pockets 13a of wheel 8 under the influence of suction 26 for deposition upon a stream of bottles 4 (not shown) by a discharge device comprising three elements, viz. air jets 24, twin jaws 11a and stop 12. Stop 12, and jaws 11a pivoted at 16, are operated together by cylinder 21, the cylinder operating jaws 11a via lazy tongs 17 pushed to the left by abutment 18. Operation.-The stack of capsules in shoot 9 rests upon stop 12. Stop 12 is withdrawn rightwards, and jaws 11a are operated to clamp the penultimate capsule of the stack. The bottom capsule thus being freed is discharged by jets 24 which blow air through passages formed in jaws 11a so that the bottom capsule is deposited in pocket 13a of wheel 18 which is rotated on a horizontal axis under the control of an approaching bottle so that when the capsule is up-ended into position 13c it is ready for discharge into the awaiting bottle.
