Abstract

1,128,571. Motor power plant; vapour power plant. April 6, 1967 [April 28, 1966], No. 15898/67, Heading F1Q, A plant for utilizing waste heat from a ship propulsion internal combustion piston engine 1 having a liquid cooling system, comprises an exhaust heat boiler 6 arranged to heat water or steam by exhaust gases from the engine and a vapour power plant (30) having a working medium whose boiling point is lower than that of water and including a first heat exchanger 45 connected to be heated by the engine coolant and a second heat exchanger 52, 53 connected to be heated by water or steam heated in the exhaust boiler, the first and second heat exchangers being connected in series for the flow therethrough of the working medium for heating evaporation and super-heating thereof The temperature of the cooling water of the internal combustion piston engine is regulated by the thermostatic valves 17 and 47. In a modification the evaporator and super-heater are disposed above the water level in the exhaust heat boiler. In another modification the evaporator and superheater are formed by a pipe coil disposed in the exhaust heat boiler.
