Abstract

1,125,873. Mortise latches. VON DUPRIN Inc. 3 April, 1967 [28 April, 1966], No. 15062/67. Heading E2A. The sliding bolt 21 of a mortise latch can normally be withdrawn, through an actuator 27, by rotation of either of a pair of cams 29, 32 but a blocking member 36 may be pivoted in one direction or the other, through a lever 52 by a key-operated lock 49, 50 so as to prevent movement of one or the other of the cams 29, 32. The latter are respectively carried by shanks of handles mounted on the two sides of the door and have sockets 31, 33 engageable by projections 38, 39 of the blocking member 36. Thus, according to whether the blacking member is set by the Jock 49, 50 to the central position shown, or to either extreme position, the latch may be withdrawn by either handle, or by one of the other handle only. The blocking member 36 is connected on either side of its pivot 37 to plungers 42, 43 and a blocking arm 57 may be set from outside the casing by means of a set-screw so as to prevent inward movement of either plunger and consequently rocking of the plocking member 36 in the corresponding direction, thus ensuring that the door can always be opened from the corresponding side. The casing takes the form of a box 11 with a cover-plate and face plates 17, 46.
