1,123,816. Continuous casting. GOSUDARSTVENNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNY INSTITUT METALLURGICHESKOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI " GIPROSTAL." 13 May, 1966, No. 21377/66. Heading B3F. For continuously casting an ingot, a dummy bar 4 is placed with an end (which may be of conical, pyramidal or wedge shape) against the complementarily-shaped, cooled, copper surface 2 of a mould and molten metal is poured into a receiver 1 to which the moulding surface is connected so that, when the mould is lowered (say 4 mm.) from the bar 4, metal runs into the space between and solidifies as a layer 3 on the bar end. During solidification, the mould and bar are both raised in the direction A. Further layers 3 are cast in succession by repetitions of the process.
