Abstract

1,123,469. Chucks. F. BURNERD & CO. Ltd. 26 April, 1967 [19 Aug., 1966], No. 37190/66. Heading B3B. A collet of the type intended for use in a chuck in which relative axial movement between a tapered sleeve member in the chuck and the collet causes the jaws thereof to move radially to grip a workpiece has a set of three or more gripping jaws and a set of guide jaws therebetween, the cylinder defined by the guide jaws being constantly slightly larger in diameter than that defined by the gripping jaws. The inner edges of the gripping jaws are serrated as shown at 24. Springs 19 urge both sets of jaws outwards. An annular guide member 8 is formed to facilitate the insertion of bar stock into the collet.
