In a rolling mill for the production of sheets, plates or strips from metal particles, the lateral walls 3 of a roll gap are mounted independently of a supply hopper to the cheeks 1 of the roll housing whereby lateral pressure thrusts from the powder in the hopper are transmitted to the cheeks 1 by pressure spindles 11 adjustably threaded at 12 through the walls 1 and engageable, at a spindle thrust surface 10, with the inner end of walls 3 adjacent the roll gap. At their outer ends, the walls 3 are each secured on a shaft 6 which is mounted between a pair of bearing blocks 7 for axial slidable displacement therethrough to follow slight roll centre displacements. Between the bearing blocks 7 and the housings cheeks 1 are secured wedges 9, the displacement whereof facilitates adjustment of the roll gap width between the walls 3. Manual or mechanical drive for adjustment of spindles 11 is facilitated by squared ends 13 thereof. The rolls may be horizontally or vertically axially aligned and are journalled in mountings 14 with the bearings 16 shielded by covers 15.
