Abstract

1,118,505. Induction heating. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 16 June; 1967, No. 27783/67. Heading H5H. A conductive charge, e.g. nickel or titanium alloy, is melted in a crucible 10 of a metal of high electrical and thermal conductivity, e.g. silver, gold, copper, silver-plated copper, which comprises a hollow-walled body 11, which may comprise parallel tubes (see Fig. 2), connected to interrupted headers 12, 13, and a hollow movable plug 19 closing a pouring aperture 18 and is surrounded by a high frequency primary induction coil 24 which induces currents in tubes 11, headers 12, 13, plug wall 20 and currents in the charge which mutually repel. The plug may comprise parallel tubes and headers and enclose a further primary coil. Coolant tubes 14, 15, 22 are provided.
