Abstract

1,115,108. Multiply liner bags. INLAND CONTAINER CORPORATION. 29 April, 1966, No. 19038/66. Headings B8K and B8P. [Also in Division B5] A spout 22 projects through apertures in a multiply side panel of a thermoplastic liner bag, and has a flanged end 50 adjacent to the inside surface 68 of the innermost ply, the flange 50 being annularly heat sealed to the plies of the bag. The external diameter of the spout is tapered at 27 to facilitate the application of a filling hose 24. The annular heat seal is produced in a heat fusion element (66) (Fig. 3, not shown) comprising a " Nichrome " (Registered Trade Mark) annulus (80) sandwiched between " Teflon " (Registered Trade Mark) sheets or fibre glass cloth (82 and 84). An electrical current, controlled by a time switch (90) (Fig. 4, not shown), is applied to the Nichrome annulus at diametrically opposite points to cause fusion of the bag plies to an annular portion 56 of the flange 50. The heat may be applied through a small section of thermoplastic material 60, placed over the spout 22 to lie adjacent to the outer ply 70, in order to strengthen the seal.
