Abstract

Crude aromatic polyisocyanates are stabilized by heating their solutions in refluxing inert organic solvents under reduced pressure for 3-24 hours. Preferred solvents are monochlorobenzene and orthodichlorobenzene, but other solvents are, e.g., toluene, xylene, esters and carbamate esters. Specified isocyanates are tolylene-2,4- and 2,6-diisocyanates, 4,41-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, m- and p-phenylene diisocyanates, diphenylene-4,41-diisocyanate, 4,41-diisocyanato-3,31-dimethyldiphenylmethane, chlorophenylene - 2,4 - diisocyanate, 2,4,6-triisocyanatotoluene and the phosgenation product of the polyamine mixture obtained by acid condensation of aniline with CH2O.
