Abstract

1,113,011. Hydrofoil craft. C. HOOK. 23 June, 1965 [11 June, 1964; 8 July, 1964], Nos. 24231/64 and 28046/64. Headings B7A and B7V. A hydrofoil craft comprises pivotal forward struts 3 on which are pivoted variable incidence hydrofoils 2. Struts 3 are yieldably located in the normal vertical position by an hydraulic piston cylinder unit 5 pivoted to the hull of the craft and the strut. On striking a floating obstruction the strut 3 yields and if the obstruction does not pass, on being stressed beyond a predetermined limit the foil itself retracts to allow the obstruction to pass under it. At the stern a pivotal strut 7 houses a drive from an inboard motor to a propeller 8 and supports a fixed hydrofoil 9.
