Abstract

1,111,005. Valves. MARKES & CO. Ltd. 16 Dec., 1965 [16 Dec., 1964], No. 51308/64. Heading F2V. A tap has a tubular body 22, Fig. 1, with a tubular pillar 24 which is internally threaded 28 and formed with a seat 30 and a discharge spout 32. A tubular sleeve 36 is screwed into the threads 28 and its upper end is closed by a seal 42 between the upper edge of the pillar 24 and an octagonal shoulder on the sleeve 36; the latter is provided with a square-threaded spout 44 which has four starts, with a lead of 0À5inch and hence a helix angle of about 11 degrees so preventing the valve pressure from inadvertently opening the valve. A nut 46 engaging the shank 44 has an external octagonal shape the corners of which coact with an internally splined socket 50 supporting the actuating lever 53 and having a depending skirt 60; the splines permit any angular relationship between the nut and socket to be realized; a grub screw 56 locks the latter parts together. A plunger 62 in the sleeve 36 has a movable closure member 64 at one end whilst the other end is connected with the nut 46 so as to be axially but not rotatably movable therewith. Three rings 78 seal the plunger to the sleeve. A key 82 attached to the plunger provides for axial movement but prohibits rotation thereof. The lever is moved through less than 180 degrees to fully open or close the valve. In a modification, a mixing valve has a body 100, Fig. 7, attached to a wash-basin and having two branches (104, Fig. 6, not shown) for single-beat valves (126) controlling the hot and cold water supplies, each of which leads to one of two ports (119) in a body extension 106; the latter has two further adjacent ports 122 leading to an outlet 124. The ports (119) at least are controlled by a deformable cupshaped member 140, a flange 144 of which is clamped against a shoulder in the body by an octagonal flange 146 on a tubular sleeve 148 and a nut 150. The member 140 is actuated by apparatus similar to that in Fig. 1.
