Abstract

A coating composition comprises an aqueous solution of a water-soluble titanium complex formed by mixing an alkyl titanate and at least one of fluosilicic acid, hydrofluoric acid, fluoboric acid, hydrogen peroxide or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and phosphoric acid. Preferably the alkyl titanate is a tetraalkyl orthotitanate in which the alkyl groups contain 2-5 carbon atoms. The product is an aqueous solution of titanyl fluosilicate, fluoride or fluoborate, pertitanic acid or titanyl peroxyphosphate respectively. The composition may be coated on to aluminium plate to form a lithographic printing plate. Other specified substrates include paper, zinc, copper, polyesters, polyamides, polystyrene and cellulose esters.ALSO:A coating composition comprises an aqueous solution of a water-soluble titanium complex formed by mixing an alkyl titanate and at least one of fluosilicic acid, hydrofluoric acid, fluoboric acid, hydrogen peroxide or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and phosphoric acid. Preferably the alkyl titanate is a tetra alkyl ortho-titanate in which the alkyl groups contain 2-5 carbon atoms. The alkyl titanate is preferably added to the aqueous acid. The product is an aqueous solution of titanyl fluosilicate, fluoride or fluoborate, pertitanic acid or titanyl peroxyphosphate respectively. The composition may be coated on to aluminium plate to form a lithographic printing plate. Other specified substrates include zinc and copper. The coating may be applied to one or both sides of the substrate by direct roll, immersion, hopper, knife, wick, bead or spray techniques. The coated plate may be sensitized by coating with a water-soluble resin containing the diazonium group. Photographic silver halide emulsions may also be used and may be transferred to the treated surface from a strippable support. If desired, the coated plate may be overcoated with a photo-conductive layer having a high electrical resistance for use in electrophotographic processes.ALSO:Titanyl silicofluoride is prepared by addition of tetraisopropyl titanate to aqueous fluosilicic acid. Titanyl peroxy phosphate is prepared by adding tetraisopropyl titanate to an aqueous solution containing phosphoric acid and hydrogen peroxide. Titanyl fluoborate is prepared by adding tetraisopropyl titanate to an aqueous solution of fluoboric acid. Pertitanic acid is prepared by adding tetraisopropyl titanate to a dilute aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide.ALSO:A coating composition comprises an aqueous solution of a water-soluble titanium complex formed by mixing an alkyl titanate and at least one of fluosilicic acid, hydrofluoric acid, fluoboric acid, hydrogen peroxide or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and phosphoric acid. Preferably the alkyl titanate is a tetraalkyl ortho-titanate in which the alkyl groups contain 2-5 carbon atoms. The alkyl titanate is preferably added to the aqueous acid. The product is an aqueous solution of titanyl fluosilicate, fluoride or fluoborate, pertitanic acid or titanyl peroxyphosphate respectively. The composition may be coated on to aluminium plate to form a lithographic printing plate. Other specified substrates include paper, zinc, copper, polyesters, polyamides, polystyrene and cellulose esters.
