Abstract

1,106,498. Feeding tobacco. K. KORBER. 18 June, 1965 [8 July, 1964; 1 Sept., 1964], No. 25848/65. Heading A2C. A method of producing a continuous coherent tobacco stream from a comparatively wide tobacco fleece consisting of tobacco fibres fed transversely to the path of the stream is characterized in that the mutual relative positions of the fibres are maintained until the tobacco stream is formed and the fleece is transferred directly on to a conveyer belt for the tobacco stream, the end of the fleece moving towards the zone when the tobacco stream is formed being disposed obliquely to the tobacco stream being conveyed on the belt away from the zone on the belt. The fleece is conveyed on a carrier which passes over a roller 2, the longitudinal axis of which is inclined at an angle a to the feed direction of the stream 13 on an endless band 8. In the embodiment shown the band 8 passes around vertical rollers and the rod is formed between the band 8 and a second band on the other side of the stream away from the region of the fleece carrier, and between upper and lower bands 14 and 17, a paper strip 22 being carried by the lower band 17. Suction is applied to the band 8, which is perforated, in the region of the fleece carrier and in this region also blower nozzles may be provided to assist in transferring the fleece from the carrier to the band 8, Fig. 3 (not shown). In further embodiments the band 8 may revolve around horizontally disposed rollers. In these embodiments the fleece is fed on to the band 8 vertically, either upwardly on to the lower run, Fig. 6 (not shown) or downwardly on to the upper run, Fig. 7 (not shown), or the fleece is fed horizontally on to the lower run of the band 8, Fig. 8 (not shown).
