Abstract

1,105,775. Repair of rubble-filled structures. PYNFORD Ltd. 4, Jan., 1967 [4, Oct., 1965], No. 42037/65. Heading E1W. Rubble filled, stone &c faced structures, such as walls or columns are repaired by feeding grout through an opening in the facing material A whilst a fluid tight membrane E is held in close engagement with the facing by the pressure of fluid enclosed adjacent to the membrane E, for example by an outer skin E<SP>1</SP> forming with the membrane E an air tight bag, or by a separate air filled bag, the fluid pressure being high enough to prevent escape of grouting material through fissures in the facing and to prevent outward movement of the facing material. The structure may be repaired in sections, from the bottom upwards each section being sealed, if ;grout needs to be introduced under heavy pressure, by a plate D introduced after access to the interior has been established with the aid of supporting piers B. the piers B and additional reinforcement threaded through the piers being subsequently embedded in concrete used to make good the cut away portions of the facing material. If gravity can be relied upon to ensure that grout will percolate through existing rubble fillings. there is no need to cut opening through the facing for insertion of plates D, and the grout can be introduced under light pressure through a small hole at the top of the section.
