Abstract

1,104,054. Lighters &c. CARBORUNDUM CO. 30 March. 1967 [15 April, 1966], No. 14550/67. Heading F4F. An igniter element for fuel oil or gas burner ignition systems comprises an elongated hollow body 10 of silicon carbide with two diametrically opposed slots forming legs 16, 18 and spiral slots cut to form a pair of helical bands (20, 22), the body being strengthened by a ceramic support tube 24 secured thereto at either end by a ceramic cement. A coating of an electrical conducting material 30 such as aluminium is deposited on legs 16, 18 to provide terminals and a polarizing key 26 disposed between the legs ensures that the body is correctly mounted within a split clip contact 32.
