Abstract
1,103,821. Standby systems for D.C. motors. CHLORIDE OVERSEAS Ltd. 21 June, 1965 [24 March, 1964], No. 12428/64. Headings H2H and H2J. An electricity supply system comprises a source which includes a secondary battery and a fuel battery in parallel. The load supplied by the system may be a railway signalling apparatus or a battery-operated milk float wherein the load has intermittent values much higher than its normal value. Thus the fuel battery may supply the normal load operating at its optimum efficiency whilst the intermittent high power requirements are met by the secondary battery. In the case of the milk float regenerative braking may be utilized to recharge the secondary battery; alternatively the fuel battery may, during low power periods, assist in recharging the secondary battery. Means are provided to prevent the flow of reverse current through the fuel battery.
