Abstract
1,102,385. Microscope objectives. BAUSCH & LOMB Inc. Oct.27, 1965 [NOV.4, 1964], No.45567/65. Heading G2J. A microscope objective system consists of a plurality of semi-objectives 14, 15, 16, 17, of positive focal lengths and common object to image distance which are inter-changeably mounted for optical alignment with a fixed negative lens 21 which forms the rear component common to each of the semi-objectives, the arrangement being such that the semi-objectives are deliberately incompletely corrected for certain aberrations particularly astigmatism and field curvature, and the lens 21 compensates therefor. As shown the semi-objectives have magnifications of 0À8x, 2À0x, 8À0x and 20À0x respectively which are multiplied by five when each is aligned with lens 21. The eye-piece 25 may have a magnification of 10x and compensate for any residual lateral colour and astigmatism in the image. Optical data are provided for one example of each of the semiobjectives 14-17, the one of highest power 17 being of the oil immersion type.
